The reason for the scripts was to eliminate the need to manually intervene with the process. I am looking for anyone that might know a work around here. This will usually work until I reboot the servers then I have to manually do this connection again. Then I can un-mount this in the file manager, rerun the script and all is good. I then log in using the user I use for backups. Then I discovered that if I opened thunar (file manager) and typed in smb:\\IPaddress I could see the shares. I can't figure out why this happens because other times the same script will work fine. I have had problems with a couple of the scripts failing at the mount command. The problem with this was if the connection was lost my cron job would run and delete the backup because I was using -del option to keep an exact copy.Īll that to say I finally go around to writing a little script to mount each server, verify it is connected by looking for a specific file. For a while I was mounting each of them and then using a cron job would do nightly backups. The servers are always connected to the backup server via openvpn. I use rsync to do backups on 8 remote serves.
